My kind of life – Marja-Leena’s story

“I am really satisfied with my everyday life. My everyday life includes my children and grandchildren, they are important to me. Now I can really be a grandmother to my grandchildren which, I think, is my most important role at the moment.”

Laughter, joy, positivity, and warmth – these are the first words that come to mind when you meet Marja-Leena. Marja-Leena, who lives in Ikaalinen, has just retired, but she still hasn’t given up her job as an independent skin care consultant. “I haven’t left my job because I really like it!”

For Marja-Leena, everyday life means life that we live here and now. “Only special parties are not everyday life for me. Otherwise, everyday life is lived every day. It is the most important moment of all – here and now.” Marja-Leena’s everyday life includes her two daughters, as well as the children of the youngest daughter. “Nowadays, I am much more able to help my daughters if they need help with something, for example babysitting grandchildren or pets.”

Marja-Leena’s everyday life changed significantly when her children moved out of the family home. Similarly, saying goodbye to beloved pets has greatly affected her everyday life. “The last life-changing event was a year ago when I had to say goodbye to my horse, I had it for 24 years. It changed my everyday life enormously, because I went riding a lot and took care of the horse. Forest trips were my passion – without a saddle, it’s the best!”

“Yes, everyday life changes along with all life situations, whether they are more or less positive changes.”

Marja-Leena describes herself as a social person, but she also likes to be by herself sometimes. “I really like water; I like to take a bath and relax like that. Not every day, but it’s also a way to pamper myself. Taking care of yourself is the most important thing.”

Marja-Leena’s perfect Monday evening should include having a bath and pampering herself with facial and hair masks. Music is also an important part of everyday life. “I also have speakers in the bathroom and sauna, so I always listen to good music there too.”

Marja-Leena’s daily routine includes morning and evening washing, otherwise she likes to go with the flow, depending on how she feels that day. “When I get home, I always change into my home clothes, usually sweatpants and a loose flannel shirt, and of course wool socks. Even though there is underfloor heating at home, I like wearing wool socks or slippers.”
